Art Drawing Ideas Everyone Can Do
1. Art drawing easy|easy art drawing ideas
The key to drawing well is to not try so hard. Most new artists want to draw something realistic and very complicated such as a portrait or landscape. But this leads to discouragement and frustration!
I encourage all new artists to draw “nothing.” Another way of saying this is to just do “easy” drawings.
The best way to do this is to simply doodle. The more you doodle, the more comfortable you get with a pencil and with drawing. The more comfortable you get with those, the easier the difficult drawings will become.
Here are some examples of how beautiful and creative “easy” doodling can be once you get going:
2. Simple art drawing ideas
Once you get comfortable doodling, you’ll automatically start drawing everyday items. Or, you’ll start seeing everyday items in your doodling! Again, the key is not to force something to happen but to gradually build your drawing skills.
Here are some simple art drawing ideas for you to try:
- -your everyday mug
- -a leaf
- -a special piece of jewelry
- -your eyeglasses
- -a favorite pen or paintbrush
- -butcher knife
- -a jar from your cabinet
- -a favorite food
Here are some of mine from my simple art drawing ides from my early drawing days:
3. Art drawing ideas creative
As you get more comfortable with doodling and simple drawings you will get more creative.
Again, it is very difficult to simply “be more creative.” While creativity looks easy, it is actually easier to draw items we relate or can identify with which unfortunately end up not being all that creative.
Therefore, a great way to move from drawing everyday items to something more creative is to draw something in-between. For instance, practice making outrageous shapes with the coffee mug you drew. Make it a triangular shape or a leaf out of the handle.
Another idea is to create unique patterns, such as curlicues, within every day shapes such as a your hand.
Art drawing ideas creative is a state of mind and different way of looking at things.

4. Art sketches ideas
Art sketches are really just a combination of many simple drawings put together. Again, don’t sabotage yourself from the start by trying to sketch some new complicated idea!
Instead look at the doodles you’ve made. Which ones to do you love, or make you smile? Multiply them to make a sketch.
Your doodles of your hands can combine to form a great sketch:
and putting your leaf doodles together can create a beautiful sketch:

5. Inspirational drawing ideas
So many new artists shut their inspirations down right away by declaring something isn’t “good enough” to draw.
Great art inspires a feeling in the viewer, it doesn’t have to be a complicated or perfect rendering.
Some inspirational drawing ideas, those that evoke calmness, awe, sadness or tension, are as follows:

6. Cool art drawing ideas
Cool art drawing ideas are about combining things that don’t typically go together. How many drawings have you seen of a sunset, a wolf or pretty woman? Now how many have you seen with all three?
Go through your doodles, what are you comfortable drawing that you can combine?
A spider with tears?
Or a stag’s head made of branches or leaves?
Or consider:
- Balloons coming out of that coffee mug
- Your eyeglasses on that stag
- A piece of jewelry being cut by a butcher knife.
Cool art drawing ideas come from seeing things together that don’t typically go together. You got this!
7. Pop art drawing ideas
If you’ve been following the drawing ideas so far, then you are only one step away from great pop art drawing ideas!
Pop art is just adding color to easy sketches and doodles.
What I do is go back to my doodles and with my favorite markers, just fill in empty spaces with a variety of colors.
I try really hard to make the colors the opposite of reality. So I will paint leaves orange, grass purple or a sky yellow.
Here are some examples you can create from the ideas above:

8. Word art drawing ideas
Most beginning artists underestimate the power of word art. Word art is currently very popular, adds instant cool and interest to an otherwise boring composition, and can give a sketch a sense of purpose.
What if the words “Bite Me” “Respect Mother Nature” or “Fly Away With Me’ were added to any of the simple sketches above? Can you see how they change the feeling and meaning of even these simple sketches?
Pro tip: You can create word art by erasing too!

9. Artistic drawing ideas
I always have to encourage new artists to broaden their definition of “artistic.” So many new artists confuse being artistic with being able to draw something that is realistically perfect.
Like watching a pro tennis player or an accomplished pianist, art from experienced artists looks easy but understand there are decades of experience, practice, and re-do’s behind every piece of art you see.
If you can enjoy the artistic process instead of fighting to become artistic, you will not only be more successful but you will be able to have a whole lot more fun!
To help you with the artistic process that leads to artistic drawing ideas, take something you know and add something:
- You wish it had
- That is the opposite
- No one’s ever seen
For example:
- Draw hands on your coffee mug sketch.
- Your favorite book titles on the balloons.
- Highlight the stag’s eyes with tears.
- Illustrate your favorite fairy-tale character riding the spider.
- Have the stag eating from the jar or jam.
- Make up your own flower an put it among the leaves.
Artistic drawing ideas are about mini-surprise gifts for your viewers.
10. Art drawing ideas for beginners
I can’t say this enough, art drawing ideas for beginners are all about keeping it simple!
Make simple pictures of everything around you. Get in the habit of going back over your sketches. If you love one add more detail to it. Still love it? Re-do it. You’ll be amazed at how your muscle memory takes over and your re-creation will be better every time.
If you still love your sketch, add some color, paint it or sculpt it. Your expertise of the subject will show in the final version.
Here’s an example of how a sneaker sketch can evolve to a fabulous painting:
11. Creative art drawing ideas
Another way to be creative is to expand your definition of drawing. Drawing does not have to be limited to freehand marks made by you and a pencil.
Here are other ways to “draw,” or add to your drawings.

12. Abstract art drawing ideas
Abstract art drawing ideas start with being fearless. The best abstract art is not planned but rather comes out of thin air, from mistakes, from a practice run or from the remains of a drawing gone awry.
Take Picasso. He didn’t plan where every swirl or drip of paint went, he threw the paint over large canvases with abandon. He and his wife then went back over the dried work with frames to find the areas that “worked” the best.
In sum, abstract art comes from the combination of unexpected marks, colors, and/or textures. Therefore, keep playing with these in your sketch book, then go back to see what gems are hidden among them.
Here are some ideas to help you make unique and abstract art:
Make a toilet paper roll marker by taping various markers or colored pencils to a toilet paper role:
Instead of starting with a subject in mind, make a backwards painting. Smear, drip or sponge paint randomly on a piece of paper. When dry, go back and see what it looks like, make that the subject. See how this can become either a close-up of a large bird heading toward the sun or a distant view of a river running through a sun-dappled valley?
Trace around various household objects, such as blocks, scissors, bottles and utensils to see what abstract art develops:
13. Art drawing books
Learning to draw from books and other people in general is a great idea! They give you easy steps to follow, great ideas to stir the imagination and typically are fun and quick to read! The only down side is that it’s hard to choose from all the options out there. So, I narrowed the list of of art drawing books to my faves.
Let me know which art drawing book you prefer or if you have your own favorite!
14. Art drawing pencil
Using any art drawing pencil to practice your drawing is better than not drawing at all! But if you want the best of the best for a final drawing or a special project then here are my recommendations:
Derwent Black Pencils for Drawing and Shading which you can purchase by clicking here:
While these may look, draw and feel like regular pencils and pastels, but when you add water they are anything but!
These are marks made by the pencils:
And here’s the gorgeousness that happens when you add water!
So, not only are art drawing pencils fun to use dry, they are astounding to use wet!
The bonus is these dry like acrylic paints and you therefore can take these with you when travelling instead of your bulky messy paints!
15. Art drawing pictures
When learning to draw, understand that copying and tracing are excellent ways to get started and learn the best art drawing ideas. If you cringe at this idea, read about all the great masters who where not only encouraged to copy the masters before them, it was mandatory part of their art education.
The key of course is that you can’t call the art your own in the public arena, but most of our works as artists stay private, so there is no harm in tracing or copying and a lot to gain.
Here are some fun pictures to trace or attempt to draw freehand to improve your art drawing ideas.
